CHE GUEVARA NEW FASHION ICON Coming to a CATWALK Near YOU

He was a revolutionary whose footprints left a mark even on the fashion world. And this season, the Che Guevara image is going beyond those yippie T-shirts and is all set to take an elegant stroll on the catwalk. Designer duo Dev r Nil have hitched a ride on The Motor Cycle Diaries to explore the Che charm in their latest collection, It’s Raining Prints. “The Che images on T-shirts and accessories have been doing the rounds for quite sometime. Keeping his dynamic personality in mind, we felt there is scope for more. So you have him, riding his rickety motorbike on silhouettes that are created from cotton silk, jersey and georgette,” says Dev.

But why Che? Pat comes Nil’s reply, “Why not? He inspired a generation and beyond, looked dashing and died young. In short, he remains an urban phenomenon and somewhat of a fashion icon.”

Instead of the conventional symbol of a lone Guevara, the designers have used his multiple images as borders of tunics and kurtis, flaunted them on short jackets, printed them all over pipe pants and wide leg floaty trousers.

Commenting further, Dev adds, “The line reflects the monsoon mood, so you have a soothing palette with splashes of bright green and canary yellow, not to forget sprinkles of cherry red also make an appearance in the line.”

Replete with prints and more prints, Dev r Nil’s monsoon flavour brings an element of indigenous batik prints and the ever trendy polka dots, along with the Latino hero. “We have steered clear of the embroidery clutter, an occasional piping on the borders is the only deviation from the print parade. It’s a prĂȘt line, and has a casual and breezy feel to it. The range of attires expresses a fun side with colours, prints and cuts that brighten the dull monsoon sky and are friendly to the pocket as well,” comes their declaration.
